F<\/span>irst contacts with the Journal des D\u00e9bats <\/em>were not really  friendly. <\/small>In 1824, Victor Hugo wrote to the chronicler from the Journal des D\u00e9bats <\/em>who wrote under the pseudonym \u00ab\u00a0Z\u00a0\u00bb, because Z had said Hugo was a Romantic. The poet gave a strong answer to what he considered as an attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the Bertin family<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

H<\/span>ugo exchanged many letters with Bertin’s daughter. His own daughter, L\u00e9opoldine, also wrote to her for some years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hugo affectionately called Louise \u00ab\u00a0the second mother of my children\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

About the Roches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

F<\/span>rom 1824 to 1843, Hugo wrote many letters which showed his love for the Roches :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0I will give all for the Roches\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/em>\u00ab\u00a0All the fir trees of the Black Forest are not worth the acacia of the court of the Roches\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

With Juliette Drouet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

J<\/span>uliette and Victor, the two lovers, very often wrote to each other. Juliette spent the holidays (1834 and 1835) at the Metz, in a small house that her \u00ab\u00a0Toto\u00a0\u00bb rented for her. They would put their love letters in a hollow chestnut tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
