{"id":1908,"date":"2022-02-04T10:20:09","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T09:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maisonlitterairedevictorhugo.net\/en\/?page_id=1908"},"modified":"2022-03-16T16:25:26","modified_gmt":"2022-03-16T15:25:26","slug":"message-gerard-larcher","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.maisonlitterairedevictorhugo.net\/en\/message-gerard-larcher\/","title":{"rendered":"Message G\u00e9rard Larcher"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong>Message from Mr. G\u00e9rard Larcher, President of the Senate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Victor Hugo, a great writer, an experienced parliamentarian belonging to the heritage of humanity<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"lettrine\">3<\/span>0 years ago, Mr. Daisaku Ikeda acquired the Ch\u00e2teau des Roches, in Bi\u00e8vres, to create the Maison Litt\u00e9raire de Victor Hugo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The approximately 4,500 pieces patiently collected over the years \u2013 books, engravings, photographs, letters, manuscripts \u2013 are all moving testimonies of the most famous of French authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The link that unites the Senate to Victor Hugo naturally led the High Assembly and this Literary House to collaborate in the context of joint exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A man of many facets, Victor Hugo was not only an illustrious poet, a great writer, but also a committed politician: Peer of France, deputy, finally senator from 1875 to his death in 1885, he raised the parliamentary mandate to its highest level of dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"lettrine\">V<\/span>ictor Hugo was involved in all battles, from universal suffrage to freedom of the press, from the abolition of the death penalty to the reform of the judiciary, from free and compulsory education to women&rsquo;s rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A supporter of bicameralism, he refused to vote for the Constitution of the Second Republic of November 4, 1848, which established a single assembly. \u201cFrance governed by a single assembly; that is, the ocean ruled by the hurricane. \u00bbThings Seen (November 4, 1848)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Entering the Senate alongside Gambetta, he fought fiercely for the amnesty of the Communards, he immediately took the lead in the fight for the establishment of the Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Republic, in which he believed, was both the extension of the Age of Enlightenment, popular sovereignty, universal suffrage, the government of all by all, the rule of law, the condition of freedom in all its dimensions and social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Victor Hugo sat in the Senate until 1885. He was the embodiment of freedom, social equality and fraternity. The political path taken by Victor Hugo is certainly rare. It is, in his case, all the more admirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This seasoned parliamentarian, this romantic hero undoubtedly belongs to the heritage of humanity.
